St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church
It's About Jesus!

Welcome!

Our vision is for St. James to be a community of believers who lift up, honor, and worship God above all else. We envision a day when the entire congregation enthusiastically lives our Christian faith by actively renewing, growing, and sharing our faith in God while serving and reaching people.

News Briefs
Renewing! Campaign Update
As was previously announced, our Renewing! Campaign is off to a great start.  Over $762,000.00 has been pledged over the next three years to help enable our vision for the future.  Thanks be to God!  While the monies will be used to upgrade the property, the result will enable St. James to reach out to the community even more, enabling groups that currently utilize our facility to expand.  For more information on the Renewing! Program, please click here.  You will be able to read the latest minutes of the renovation team to stay "in the loop" on what is being discussed.

Newsletter published!

The newly re-formed Newsletter team has been working feverishly to bring back the newsletter to St. James.  If you have anything to contribute, you can e-mail the team at stjamesnewsletter@epix.net.  To read the March 2008 edition of St. James Happenings please click here.  The deadline for submissions for the May-June newsletter is April 1st.

2008 Thrivent Builds Program

This year we are building one home in S. Bethlehem and are looking for all our congregations to step in and help.  Since we are only building one home, we only need 15 builders for each day.  We also need both breakfast and lunch (serving and/or preparing) for each of the 9 days of the Blitz Week.  As before, we need site hosts to help sign in the volunteers and keep the day running smoothly.

The South Lehigh Chapter (St. James is one of 12 churches in this chapter) is responsible for breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, June 24, Saturday, June 28, and Tuesday, July 1.  We are also responsible for obtaining 15 builders and 3 site hosts, as well as one Clergy and a Safety Coordinator for Friday, June 27 and Monday, June 30). These dates are recommendations for our particular church.  If there is anyone who wants to work but needs another date, let me know ASAP.  Also, we will be working on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays after the Blitz Week until the home is finished.  You can sign up for one of those days.

Once you have contacted me, I will give you the appropriate paperwork and other info.  We are asking the volunteers to work the entire day, if possible.  If someone has to leave early, you will not be turned away.  Thanks for your offer to help.  Mary Ann Vought (610-967-2048)

Adult Forum to begin new series February 17th!

Beginning Sunday, April 6, in Rm 2, Adult Studies will be “singing our faith”.  Join us,  as we embark on a biblical exploration of grace through poetry, music, and history.  “The Presence of God” a new volume in the Sing The Faith series, explores five of the most beloved hymns of the Christian tradition.  Come. Sit. Sing. And be re-energized.  Who knows, we just might be the next musical wonder. Or not!

Our Mission

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our mission is to minister to the personal and spiritual needs of our community and ourselves by:

  • Promoting and providing meaningful worship services.
  • Understanding and addressing all aspects of diversity.
  • Providing appropriate programming and continuing Christian education to meet identified needs.
